Ira Cheifetz, MD is the Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer for Duke Children's, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Duke University Hospital, and Vice-Chair for Inpatient Operations in the Department of Pediatrics. He also serves as the Medical Director for Pediatric Respiratory Care Services. Dr. Cheifetz is a Professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology in the Duke University School of Medicine and an international expert in the fields of mechanical ventilation, respiratory monitoring, cardiorespiratory interactions, and extracorporeal life support. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and chapters, most of which have been in the fields of pediatric critical care and respiratory care. Dr. Cheifetz joined the faculty of Duke University Medical Center in 1996, after completing his residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care at Duke University Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine.
